Academic Quiz Bowl: Mrs. Pflug, Advisor

Academic Quiz Bowl is a club involving two types of scholastic competition.  A bi-annual competition in the Fall and Spring involves all members competing against the clock against teams throughout the nation.  The other type of competition involves two teams of four members participating in a regional high school league during the Winter culminating with a tournament in the Spring in Ashland.

Art Club: Mr. Hessel, Advisor 

In Art Club, students will be involved in artistic projects within the school and as requested by the community. Students will also host events such as the annual Art Auction, Empty Bowls, and the Senior Art Show. Active members will be eligible for the Art Club Scholarship their senior year.

Color Guard: Mr. Hintzman, Coach

The NHS Color Guard is a co-curricular activity which performs with the NHS Marching Band at the Bayfield Apple Festival Parade.  Any student at NHS is eligible to participate.

Danceline: Mrs. Haskins, Coach

The Danceline squad was formed to help promote school spirit and encourage high morals and standards among its members.  Danceline members create their own routines to be performed at home basketball games, parades and other various events scheduled by the coach.  They perform with the band on occasion or to their own musical selection(s).  The squad consists of 14 regular members, 1-2 alternates and one manager.  Danceline members must be in ninth through twelfth grade. They must be a full-time student and meet all the requirements stated in the Northwestern High School Co-Curricular Code in order to perform.

Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA): Ms. Forsythe, DECA Advisor

The mission of DECA is to enhance the co - curricular education of students with interests in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship. DECA helps students develop skills and competence for marketing careers, build self-esteem, experience leadership and practice community experience. DECA is committed to the advocacy of marketing education partnership, Every year students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities such as leadership labs and special projects. Members also compete every year at district competition and possibly the state and national career development conferences. DECA has chapters in all 50 states, all Canadian provinces, US territories and in Germany. There are about 220,000 members internationally and about 10,000 in Wisconsin.

D.J. Club: Mr. Hintzman, Advisor

Formed in 1997 with the financial support of the Northwestern Activities Club, the Northwestern High School DJ Club provides music and lighting entertainment at most Northwestern High School dances as well as Northwestern Middle School dances. Any student in grades 9-12 is eligible to join the at the beginning of each school year. Using C.D.'s, and over 16 lighting effects, the NHS DJ Club provides entertainment that is state of the art. In addition to dances, the NHS DJ Club also provides "light show introductions" at a boys and girls basketball game each year as well as providing music for the volleyball and wrestling teams. Under the leadership of its officers, the NHS DJ Club meets several times a year to decide on equipment and music purchases as well as club performances. Opportunities are given throughout the year for new members to learn how to set up and use the music and lighting system. 

Drama/One Act Plays: Mr. Helbach, Coach; Patricia Luostari, Coach

The drama team meets after school each day in the fall beginning the second week of school. The tam uses actors, set crew, make-up artists, costume personnel, and sound and light technicians to prepare a complete play lasting just 40 minutes. That play is brought to judges at area festivals for a chance to perforn at a state level competition in November. In addition, the group usually prepares a second, non-competition play. Together, these plays are presented to the public at the annual "Night of One Acts" in early November. No experience is necessary...just a willingness to try and a desire to have fun in the theater!

Founded in 1928, the Future Farmers of America brought together students, teachers and agribusiness to solidify support for agricultural education. In Kansas City's Baltimore Hotel, 33 young farm boys charted a course for the future. They could not have foreseen how the organization would grow and thrive. Since 1928, millions of agriculture students - no one knows exactly how many - have donned the official FFA jacket and championed the FFA creed. FFA has opened its doors and its arms to minorities and women, ensuring that all students could reap the benefits of agricultural education. Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Now, the organization is expanding the nation's view of "traditional" agriculture and finding new ways to infuse agriculture into the classroom. The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA): Mrs. Radig, Advisor

This is the only in-school student organization with the family as its central focus.  Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life-planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication-necessary in the home and work place.  The mission of FCCLA is to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education, focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader.  There is a slate of officers each year that  run regular meetings, plan projects, and  activities for the members.  Members have opportunities to meet new kids through leadership workshops and star events (competitions).

Forensics: Mr. Helbach, Coach

From February Through Mid-April, students participate in the speech festival series. Students can participate in one of sixteen different categories ranging from original speeches to performance of literature at the sub-district competition, to the district level and finally at the State Speech Festival held at the UW-Madison campus in April. Each level requires students to perform for judges and earn enough points to advance to the next level. Performances can be solo or in small groups, depending on the category chosen. All participants have loads of fun and give much support to each other! It is a great way to improve your public speaking skills...skills that will last a lifetime. Individual schedules can be flexible to allow participation in other activities and sports.

The NHS Musical is a co-curricular activity which involves many students at NHS. There are stage performers, stage crew members, light and sound crew, and the pit band. Much time before and after school is spent to make this activity a great success.
