School District of Maple

School begins each morning at 8:05 at Iron River (IR). Students who are transported by parents should not arrive before 7:45 if your child is eating breakfast at school. No supervision is provided until that time unless they are being transported on the school bus. Afternoon dismissal is at 3:10 p.m.  If you pick your child up at the end of the day, please make arrangements to do so by 3:15 p.m.

At IR, enter the school doors by the office and sign out your child. Your child will be dismissed from class to come and meet you. For safety reasons, students must wait inside their classrooms until the teacher sends them to the office.

Even if the child has a note or a phone call has been made to the office, the child will board the bus if the parent is not at school when it is time for the buses to leave at 3:50. Children may not stay after school and wait for their parents.

If you designate someone to pick up your child, please call the office ahead of time or send a signed note with the driver. We want to be sure your child only goes with whom you wish.

If your child is absent (or tardy), please send a note or call the school explaining the absence. School Board policy requires the parent to inform the school of the date(s)and the reason(s) for any child’s absence from school. If you do not respond, your child’s absence will be considered unexcused and he/she will not receive credit for the work missed. A child must be in the class one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon session to be counted as present for the morning and afternoon session.

All children in attendance must be healthy enough to participate in all outdoor and indoor activities scheduled for the day, including adaptive activities for children with disabilities. If you are concerned about your child’s health and going outside, the general rule of thumb is that if you feel your child is too sick to go outdoors, the child is too sick to be in the classroom as well. Children benefit by enjoying the outdoors. This enables them to breathe clean, fresh air, which is important to their health.
Recess and noon hour breaks are taken outdoors unless it is raining or extremely cold, so be sure your child is dressed for the weather conditions. Students are not allowed back in the school building until the bell rings or the whistle is blown. It is also a good idea to keep an extra sweater at school. Please put your child’s name and grade on all clothing he/she may remove during the day.

If you must contact your child during the school day, please leave a message with the administrative assistant or person who answers the telephone. The message will be relayed promptly with minimal classroom disturbance.
