NHS Activities Monthly Round-up: May 2026
Band
Members of the band wrapped up the year performing at the NHS Commencement on Friday, May 22. A reminder that you can watch this and all music department concerts on the School District of Maple YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@schooldistrictofmaple
Choir
Concert Choir has wrapped up the year as well as all of the small groups. They had a great year of music making and can’t wait for next year!
FCA
The NHS Huddle of FCA meets every Friday morning at 7:35 a.m. in Room 3058. Sophie Navarro, Jael Lintula and Ailie Clemmer are leading the Huddle. We are presently using DBS during our time together. Super great method to learn! There is a new regional director for all the Huddles north of Highway 8 so we are hoping to meet him this fall. All are welcome to FCA! Have a great summer!
Students Over Substance (SOS)
The SOS group is excited about our new name and we hope it feels more inclusive! WE are thrilled to continue our partnership with Douglas County Drug Prevention Coalition and the American Lung Association. We are equally happy to welcome Kerri Green to our team. Many of you remember her from her NES days as a 4K educator! We are presently trying to form a “board” to provide leadership that is student-led. We are promoting Movies on the Island in the month of August on Barker’s Island. Movies start at dusk. This is a free event!
The dates are August 1, 8 and 15. We hope everyone has a substance-free fantastic summer! We also had a blast at the Tiger Foundation Community Event in Poplar on May 16. Special thanks to Hannah, Monica, Bailey and Izzy! We will support that event in the future.
Student Council
We started the month off by recognizing and celebrating staff during Staff Appreciation Week. Members of Student Council stopped by every classroom/office on May 8th with a “Sunshine Cart” full of favorites (hot coffee, cold coffee, donuts, granola bars, chips, fruit, Bubbl’r, Gatorade, etc.). It was a nice way to end the week and it put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces. We then hosted a “Senior Social” for the graduating class of 2026. Students got to enjoy a light breakfast during their 1st block which included bagels, donuts, muffins, pastries, fruit, hot coffee, cold coffee, and juices. It was a time to socialize with friends on the last Friday of their high school career. Members are currently voting for the people they want as officers next year and we’ll have one more meeting to chat about the goals and vision for 2026-2027!
Trap Club
The Northwestern High School Trap season has come to a close. We ended the season in 5th place in our conference. Fifteen student athletes will be traveling to the State Tournament in Rome, WI on the 1st Sunday in May.
To close the season in style, we will hold a fun night on the 27th of May. Food and games are the name of the day. We’ll have a picnic and play games such as Annie Oakley and Back Your Buddy.
