Forensics

Students who enjoy reading out loud, play acting, giving demonstrations, and working in groups will enjoy the forensic group. Forensics at NMS begins after Winter break and meets after school until 5:15. The practice schedule is very flexible as much of the students work is done at home. The first competition is in February at Spooner. Those students who receive "A" ratings move on to the state competition in Eau Claire in March. Students interested in Forensics need to sign up the week before Winter break.

Student Council

The Northwestern Middle School Student Council is an organization open to all middle school students. Elections are held in early September and two students are chosen from each advisory to represent the student body. Student council meetings are held monthly to discuss upcoming school-wide activities and events. Some of the activities sponsored by the student council include: Community service projects, a fall festival, all-school dances and fun nights, experience day field trip, and coordinating concession sales for many extra-curricular activities throughout the school year. Students involved in student council learn the importance of responsibility, develop leadership skills, and are expected to model "first class" behavior both in and out of the classroom.
