NHS Activities Monthly Round-up: February 2026


Band

The band has been finishing up their pep band season performing at basketball games as well as preparing for the Spring Concert on Monday, March 9th (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUI5RiiIUuE).  On Thursday, February 26, they hosted a WSMA Concert Festival at NHS.  Their hard work paid off as they received top ratings from each of the three judges.


Choir

The choir is busy preparing for the Spring Concert on Monday, March 9th. They are also going to perform those same pieces in front of judges at the Choir Festival on Thursday, March 5th. They will then be rated on their performance and given a reward based on those ratings. Vocal Jazz is preparing for the Coffee House jazz concert on Tuesday, March 31st. Small groups as well as some solos and duets are also preparing for the District Solo and Ensemble event at Ashland High School on Saturday, April 11th where they will also perform for a judge and receive ratings. They will then receive awards based on those ratings. 


FBLA

FBLA had a great regional conference in Hammond, Wisconsin on February 7, 2026. Fifteen students qualified  for the State Leadership Conference and competition which will be held in Green Bay, Wisconsin on April 13 - 14, 2026. In addition, Doris Ewald, will run a campaign at the conference for the state reporter position for the 2026-27 school year.


FCA

The NHS Huddle of FCA meets every Friday morning at 7:35 a.m. in Room 3058.  Reagan Eberhardt, Payton Orme, Sophie Navarro, Jael Lintula and Ailie Clemmer are leading the Huddle.  We are presently using DBS during our time together.  Super great method to learn!  Gatorade drinks were delivered to all our winter athletes with a note from FCA.  Great outreach activity!  Our leaders are doing a great job.


FCCLA

FCCLA had a fantastic experience at our Fall Leadership Conference/Regional competition at UW Stout in February with all members advancing to the State Leadership Conference which will be April 6-8 in the Wisconsin Dells. 


FFA

February started the competition season for FFA Members. Eight students traveled to Ashland to compete in the first level of Leadership Development Contests. Three students finished in the top three and one was able to place 1st and move on to the second level of competition in March. FFA members also completed a community service project to raise money for the Douglas County Humane Society and organized a Teacher and Staff Appreciation Breakfast for High School staff members to enjoy on the last Friday of the month.


National Honor Society

We are sponsoring a Bingo afternoon for senior citizens (65+) on Sunday, April 12, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Northwestern High School, in the Commons. Please come join us for some music, games, and conversation.  The event is free. Prizes, snacks, and refreshments will be provided.  For more information, please contact the NHS advisor Katie Thompson (kthompson@nw-tigers.org).


SADD/FACT

The SADD/FACT group is excited about the partnership with Douglas County Drug Prevention Coalition and the American Lung Association.  Both Charmaine and Sara are amazing resources!  Thank you to both of these organizations.  We are presently in the planning stages of another movie night and a PROMise event.  


Trap Club

Registration for the Trap Club, 2026 spring season , will kick off on February 3rd. And closes on March 22nd.  Listen for announcements coming the beginning of February, or direct any questions to Mrs. Wick: NHS room 2051 or phone 715- 363-0136


Student Council

January was a busy month filled with Snow Week fun.  Student Council then transitioned into February and hosted another round of dress-up days for the week leading up to Valentine’s Day.  Some of the days included Cozy Cupid and Rhyme Without Reason.  The week concluded with candy sales that were delivered with personalized notes to friends, staff, and significant others.  All proceeds went back to the organization to help fund future events.  


Yearbook

The yearbook staff has finished creating the 2026 yearbook; they will be distributed in May. As of March 1, 45 yearbooks are still available for purchase.  Go online to Jostens to purchase one for your student.  If you are unsure whether you have already ordered one for your student, email the yearbook advisor, Katie Thompson (kthompson@nw-tigers.org).

2026 NHS Building Construction House Bid Information

Bids requested on a new home according to the instructions below:

2026 NHS Building Construction HouseA new home shell, one story, 24' x 36' with two bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, utility room, and one full bathroom framed in, will be sold to the high bidder over a minimum of $40,000. The house is located at Northwestern High School, Maple, WI.  Following are the features of this home:

  1. LPI 20 Series, 9-1/2” I-Joists floor framing with LP Legacy Floor Sheathing.
  2. 2x6 exterior wall construction.
  3. Engineered roof truss system with 1’ heel height - 6/12 Pitch.
  4. 5/8” OSB used on the roof sheathing.
  5. 7/16” OSB used on wall sheathing with Tyvek House Wrap.
  6. Great Room ceiling is vaulted - 3/12 vaulted interior.
  7. LP Smart Siding, Diamond Kote (Glacier Fog with Coffee Trim)
  8. Rollex brand aluminum soffits and fascia, (Mocha color). 
  9. Insulated Marvin Elevate windows, Low E with Argon, with screens throughout. (Almond Frost) Bare Pine Interior. 
  10. Matching Marvin Elevate Sliding French door.

This house is being sold as a shell.  The interior of the building is framed in, but plumbing, finished flooring, sheet rock, electrical, insulation, etc. has not been completed.  

This house is open for inspection by appointment only, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to April 13, 2026. Please contact the District Office @ 715-363-2431 to make an appointment.  

A certified check in the amount of ten (10) percent of the bid price and a letter from a financial institution stating that the bidder has been pre-approved for their bid dollar amount must accompany the bid.  If, after submitting the bid on the house, the successful bidder decides not to purchase the house, the ten (10) percent bid bond will be forfeited.  The house must be paid for in full before removal from the school district premises.  Removal must be no later than August 13, 2026.  It is recommended that bidders have their plans for site development finalized prior to submitting a bid.

The Maple School Board reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids.  All bids must be contained in a sealed envelope marked "House Bid" addressed to the Board of Education, School District of Maple, P.O. BOX 188, Maple, WI 54854.

Band

DECA members had the opportunity to compete at Mini-Districts at Two Harbors High School in December, and our students did a DECA-tastic job!  Shout outs to the following students who placed in their categories:

  • Jael Lintula: Sports Marketing
  • Carter Youderin: Principles of Hospitality and Tourism
  • Ava Waldvogel: Marketing
  • Lauren Wiita: Hotel and Lodging Management AND Sports and Entertainment Marketing

DECA competitors also competed at UW-Stout on Saturday, January 10th at the District Career Development Conference.  Our students were extremely successful!  Congratulations to all competitors, and a special shout to the following students:

  • Medalists: Wilson Isaksen, AJ Ketola, Mackenzie Olson, Evan Kreuser, Lauren Wiita
  • Double Medalists: Doris Ewald, Cameran Jonasen, Noah Sanders, Jaylynne Lawler, and Sophie Navarro

  • Trophy Award Winners: Aden Hubbard, August Isaksen, Isaac Pooler, Jaylynne Lawler, and Sophie Navarro

District Names New Superintendent

District Names New Superintendent

Mrs. Kari GroeneveldThe School District of Maple is pleased to announce the hiring of Mrs. Kari Groeneveld as their next Superintendent. Groeneveld comes to Maple with 15 years of experience in education. This includes time as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, technology specialist, interventionist and building principal. She has worked with all grades ranging from 3K through seniors in high school. She is currently the elementary principal at Bonduel Elementary School in Bonduel, Wisconsin.

Groeneveld will be moving to the area with her husband and son and looks forward to connecting with everyone in the district. Groeneveld says, "Maple reminds us of where we are from, we love the area and I am very much looking forward to serving the students, staff and communities within the School District of Maple." Groeneveld will officially begin her work with the District on July 1st.

NOTICE TO THE ELECTORS OF SCHOOL DISTRICT OF MAPLE DOUGLAS AND BAYFIELD COUNTIES, WISCONSIN

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the School Board of the School District of Maple, at a meeting duly called, noticed, held and conducted on January 12, 2026, adopted an Initial Resolution entitled:

INITIAL RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $14,500,000

Said Initial Resolution was adopted pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 67 of the Wisconsin Statutes to authorize a borrowing in an amount not to exceed $14,500,000 through the issuance of general obligation bonds of the District for the public purpose of paying the cost of a school facility improvement project consisting of:  district-wide capital maintenance, building infrastructure, systems and site improvements; and acquisition of furnishings, fixtures and equipment.

Copies of said Initial Resolution and a detailed breakdown of the school facility improvement program to be financed with the proceeds of the proposed Bond issue are on file in the District Office located at 4751 South County Road F, Maple, Wisconsin and may be inspected weekdays except holidays, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The School Board has called for a referendum election on the Initial Resolution to be held on April 7, 2026.
