Important Information

Yesterday marked Northwestern's 6th Annual Reality Store.  It was an amazing event where our 8th grade students got a "reality check" about how much life really costs.

The Reality Store is an event where our 8th graders experienced the “real world.”  The students had the opportunity to practice planning for their futures and making adult choices, such as budgeting, obtaining insurance, buying a car, purchasing a house, etc.

Our past middle school students found this activity to be incredibly meaningful, and one student stated the following: “This showed me just how hard I will have to work—starting now.”  The great discovery they found was a correlation between school and the real-world.

Northwestern, Washburn, and Bayfield 8th graders participated in the event.  Local area businesses and high school students volunteered to put the Reality Store together.  It's a wonderful event, where many members from the community came and worked together to get this learning opportunity organized.

Math Support at NMS
A Message from the NMS Math Team:

Your NMS student has a great learning opportunity to further develop their math skills!

Your child has an online account with the online math program called ALEKS.

This program allows students to develop their math skills at their own individual levels.

ALEKS instructs the student on the topics they are most ready to learn and it periodically reassesses the student to ensure that topics learned are also retained.

We encourage students to take advantage of this learning opportunity and we are hoping for your support in encouraging our students to give ALEKS their best effort.

More time spent on ALEKS will yield even more results.

Please encourage your child to be productive when working on ALEKS and to maximize their time spent on ALEKS (i.e. logging on if finished with other work, using a study skills class to work on ALEKS, and even working at home).

We are so excited for this great opportunity and we look forward to helping our NMS Tigers become even stronger math students!

NMS Mission Statement

The NMS Advisory Program

Northwestern Middle School is committed to educating each student to be a productive and responsible citizen. In order to do this our character education program will teach respect, responsibility, honesty, and pride. We will teach, model, and affirm these character traits and provide an opportunity for students to practice these traits at school, home, and in the community.
